Plano-convex cylindrical lens has one plane and one cylinder, with a regular focal length. Unlike a spherical lens, a cylindrical lens acts on a beam in only one direction. Cylindrical lenses are commonly used for beam shaping. Typical applications include dual cylindrical lens collimation and circular laser diode output beams. In order to reduce the spherical aberration, the plane convex cylindrical lens is used to focus the collimated beam into a line, and the beam should be incident on the lens surface; as quasi-linear light source, the beam should be incident on the lens plane.
